For over forty decades, the American Music Awards (AMAs) has honored the artistic achievements of the hottest hit makers in America selected as nominees in twenty-four categories.    What makes the AMAs so special and popular for over forty years has been its fans.    The fans have voted for their favorite nominee and on this special night in a live broadcast to millions of households, the winners are finally revealed.    It is an amazing celebration of music at its best,  seasoned with fan loyalty, dedicated to the artistry of American entertainment.

Jennifer Lopez hosted this year the 43rd AMAs telecast at the Microsoft Theatre downtown Los Angeles.  Bringing her special brand of glamour and charisma, the actress, dancer, and singer did not disappoint.    She changed wardrobes, numerous times, and delivered a show shopping performance.   A parade of presenters from Zendaya to Paula Abdul to Wiz Khalifa and Terry Crews graced the stage before screaming fans.  Tyrese, Julianne Hough, Sean Combs, Ciara and Jenny McCarthy were also presenters.

There were other over the top performances by Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and Gwen Stefani.   In a tribute to the fallen victims of the Paris, France terrorist attack, Celine Deon, delivered a powerful performance, which produced tears in many eyes.  Time seemed to stand still as the powerful vocalist moved the audience with ‘Hymne A L’ Amour” made famous by the French artist Edith Piaf.

Nick Jonas did a show-stopping medley joined by a choir; however, the evening belonged to the One Direction, Nicki Minaj and The Weekend (Abel Testfaye).  They were the big winners of the night.  One Direction won the most prestigious award, Favorite Artist of the Year, while Minaj and Weekend (Abel Testfaye) won two AMAs each.

Minaj won Favorite Hip/Hop Album and Favorite Hip/Hop Artist.  Testfaye won Favorite Soul/R&B Album and Favorite Soul/R&B Artist. Very excited and sharing her award with her grandmother, Ariana Grande, the little girl with a big voice received the Favorite Pop/Rock Female Award.  Carrie Underwood wins Favorite County Female, Taylor Swift wins Favorite Single and Favorite Adult Contemporary, Rihanna wins Favorite Soul R&B Female.

Other highlights of the evening were a fabulous Pentatonix Star Wars tribute and Justin Bieber’s closing out the show with a ceremonial rain soaked performance with a medley of hits from his album “Purpose”.
